China’s rich marine resources and diverse marine ecosystem have provided huge ecological service and strong resource support for China’s economic and social development especially in coastal areas. They are precious wealth for China’s economy to maintain sustainable and sound development. Meanwhile, high upsurge of ocean development and rapid marine economic development also exert huge pressure on the ocean especially the offshore ecological environment. China’s Marine Conservation and Development was compiled and revised by the Marine Development Strategy Institute of State Oceanic Administration It is one of the volumes of the series of China’s Maritime Development which is the publishing program sponsored by the National Publishing Fund as well as the Twelfth Five-year Guideline of National Important Books. This book of China’s Marine Conservation and Development includes the following six parts of China’s maritime ecology and resources, China’s utilization of marine resources, China’s maritime disaster reduction and prevention, China’s marine environment quality, China’s marine ecological and environmental protection, and China’s strategies of maritime sustainable development. It introduces China’s contribution in building a beautiful ocean and protecting sound marine environment in a relatively comprehensive way.
Liu Yan, research fellow and Ph. D, is the director of the Research Center of Ocean and Environment of the Marine Development Strategy Institute of State Oceanic Administration. He has long been engaged in the research on the policies of marine environmental protection, sustainable development of ocean, maritime economy and maritime development strategy.
